Family Characteristics
- Why Devil Begone?
I like Devil Begone for a number of important
genetic attributes, however, I especially like his outstanding
suitability for New Mexico racing and high class family. Breeders
that presume Devil Begone's pedigree favors turf racing, overlook
some important family characteristics. While his family's turf
exploits certainly overshadow their other points, please don't
overlook our reasons that Devil Begone was brought to New Mexico:
SPEED, 2YO maturity, and class. He has the strong masculine look
of a sire, he has presence and personality, he's big, and he's
correct. He has a great disposition for a Hail To Reason sireline stallion.
Devil Begone has so much more than a grass
pedigree. His progeny will be eminently suitable for New Mexico
style racing. Devil Begone, his half-brother, LURE, their dam,
ENDEAR, and their family ALL demonstrate::
- Devil Begone has SPEED, his Family has
SPEED, his Sireline has SPEED on both dirt and turf
- Winning performance on dirt surfaces.
- Running Family - A strong family with high
probability of continued racing success.
- Two-Year-Old Maturity - Two and Three Year
Old Winning Performance in Top Company.
- Class, Conformation, and Quality.
- Early Track Record Speed.
- Versatile Performers on both dirt
and turf
- As a 2YO, Lure set a 5 Furlong
Track Record of 0:56.1 on dirt at Belmont.
- Devil Begone broke his maiden at 6
furlongs carrying top weight by 5 lengths wire-to-wire
on the dirt in his first, lifetime start.
- Even though overshadowed by his turf success, LURE had 3YO, One Mile, Graded Stakes Speed
on dirt.
- ORPEN 96, by Lure x Bonita Francita, by Devil's Bag, LURE'S very first starter, as a 2YO, in only his second lifetime start, won the 1998 Prix Morny (Grade I) with the fastest time for the race since 1984. ORPEN'S special significance is that he's bred on the opposite pattern as Devil Begone and firmly demonstrates the most powerful type of nick (when it is successful both ways).
- Their dam, ENDEAR, was a grade III
stakes winner at 2 with 3 wins and a place from 5 starts,
while on her way to a top grade I career of 7 wins from 2
to 4, $516,055. She is an important, Grade I stakes
winning daughter of broodmare-sire-of-sires, Alydar.
- His sire, DEVIL'S BAG was an undefeated,
Grade I (at 2) stakes-winning, two-year-old
champion and has become a sire-of-sires.
- Devil Begone has produced big, stout,
correct, early maturing foals.
- Devil Begone is an outcross for mares with
Northern Dancer-bloodlines, collateral cross for mares with
Mr. Prospector-bloodlines
- Devil Begone has an outstanding disposition.
Many of the other Hail To Reason-sireline stallions are not as
kind and sensible. His foals are also kind, gentle, and nice to work with.
