DEVIL BEGONE to New Mexico

Oshawa, 10/28/98: DEVIL BEGONE, the royally-bred, winning, half-brother to Breeders' Cup Mile-G1 Winner, LURE ($2,515,289), will stand at Running Horse Farm, Albuquerque, New Mexico for 1999, it was announced today by Bernard McCormack, General Manager of Windfields Farm, Oshawa, Canada. He previously stood at Windfields Farm. Devil Begone 90, by Devil's Bag x Endear, by Alydar entered stud in 1995.

DEVIL BEGONE, property of Tullira Stables, the only other foal from G1 winner, ENDEAR ($516,055), by Alydar, is a son of champion 2YO and leading sire, Devil's Bag. His oldest foals are 2 year olds of 1998. He will stand in 1999 at Nancy and Loren Bolinger's Running Horse Farm, Albuquerque, New Mexico for $1500.00, live foal. CS Ranch and Running Horse Farm are the leasees. He is nominated to the regional Lineage Series for New Mexico-bred foals. In what he described as a major coup for the New Mexico horse breeding industry, Mr. Bolinger stated: "We are pleased and excited to be standing this fine stallion. DEVIL BEGONE is an exceptional and important opportunity for New Mexico breeders. For me, the quality, conformation, and appearance of his foals at Windfields are icing on the cake. His foals are real lookers, having correct conformation, willing temperaments, and nice to be around."

LURE, the brilliant miler, twice winner of the Breeders' Cup Mile-G1(once in course record time of 1:32 4/5), was recently returned to the USA to Coolmore's Ashford Stud, one of the premier stud farms in Kentucky from Coolmore in Ireland. LURE'S yearlings have been exceptionally well received worldwide, selling near the top at all sales entered. Yearlings have sold in Australia for $800,000 AUS, France for $640,000, and the USA for $560,000 and $400,000. LURE is represented by his first starter and stakes winner, ORPEN, Group 1 winner in France of the Prix Morny. It is notable that ORPEN shares a somewhat similar but opposite pedigree pattern with DEVIL BEGONE (with ENDEAR on top and DEVIL'S BAG on the bottom).

From the prepotent TURN-TO - HAIL TO REASON sire line, DEVIL BEGONE, is by champion 2-year-old and leading sire, DEVIL'S BAG who has become a sire-of-sires, with such sons as DEVIL HIS DUE, 1997 Leading Second-Crop Sires DIABLO and TWILIGHT AGENDA, etc. His maternal grandsire, the great ALYDAR not only is a sire-of-sires, but is a leading broodmare sire, and is becoming a significant broodmare-sire-of-sires, through such young stallions as ALYDEED, BOONE'S MILL, GENERAL MEETING, VICTORY SPEECH, PERSONAL HOPE, etc. DEVIL BEGONE is from a prominent, stakes producing, female family that includes the G1 SW, TILLER ($867,988). He is very nearly a total outcross within six generations and is an outcross to Northern Dancer and a collateral cross to Mr. Prospector.

A precocious and versatile two-year-old, DEVIL BEGONE won his first career start on the dirt wire-to-wire by 5 lengths at Woodbine. He also took a 1 1/16 mile Monmouth allowance on the turf by 2 1/2 lengths in a quick 1:42 2/5.
