Bitmap image files could be one of many different incompatible formats or could be proprietary to a specific vendor. To attempt to diagnose possible formats can be frustrating and difficult. The following steps may be helpful.
Check with origination software's documentation if available.
Use our INFO.EXE on a sample image: TEST.IMG to see if it recognizes the format.
Try renaming the extension to .TGA and then .TIF, then try INFO.EXE again with each of these different extensions and use INFO.EXE again. It will either identify the format or return junk or errors.
If none of the above works, then an examination of the file with a hex editor may turn up some clues as to the nature of the format. Should the format be proprietary, such as the KoFax formats, you are probably out of luck as the vendor often regards format information as proprietary.
