Scanning

When using a scanner not directly supported by SunShow, you must scan to a standard bitmap format: 8-, 16-, or 24-bit TGA uncompressed, CompuServe's GIF, PCX, or BMP using the scanner vendor-supplied software. My suggestion is to then convert the image to PCX or GIF for use with your application. It is best to create or scan the image to the required output virtual dimensions.

For example: scan a standard 8.5" x 11.0" page to 100 DPI in black and white or 2-color would generate an image having a virtual size of 850 pixels wide by 1100 pixels tall.

To scan a standard 8.5" x 11.0" page to 200 DPI in black and white or 2-color would generate an image having a virtual size of 1700 pixels wide by 2200 pixels tall.

Both of these document scans exceed the virtual size of the typical SVGA video card frame buffer and thus are not displayable in REAL mode display (SHOWPCX.EXE, SHOWGIF.EXE) in normal SVGA video modes (1024x768, 800x600, 640x480). They must be displayed in VIRTUAL display mode (VIEWPCX.EXE, VIEWGIF.EXE or the corresponding SunShow functions).
